Minus the formal tails, the first tuxedo jacket shocked society. (“Horace, get the smelling salts!”) The non-stuffy tradition continues. "There's a trend toward smaller peak lapels with a high-button stance," says Bill Tzizik, president of Classic Tuxedo. But even classic styles are easy to update, Tzizik adds, such as with a long Windsor tie and/or a vest in place of a cummerbund. For a "retro Sinatra Rat Pack" appeal, Tzizik suggests a non-pleated shirt with a lay-down instead of a wing collar. As seen here around town, the latest incarnations include nipped tux dresses for women as well.
