Hassle Free Formals
BOSTON, MA, September 8, 2003 -
How does one begin to shop for a tuxedo for a wedding celebration?
Not something you shop for everyday. Traditional shopping strategies
have changed due to the advent of on-line shopping. Websites
like www.classictuxedo.com feature an on-line catalog that
showcase the current styles available. Whether you shop on-line
or at the strip mall, before you rent or buy formalwear, the
first questions you should be asking are, what do I wear when
the invitation says ”black tie,” how do I select
the right shop for tuxedos, and should I buy or rent my tuxedo?
“Black tie” is not an
unfamiliar term in today’s
party planning scene so many wedding invitations may read “black
tie optional,” “black tie preferred,” “black
tie invited,” or simply “black tie.” Although
the clothing industry is trendy, there are some definite
rules. Bill Tzizik, President of Classic Tuxedo, suggests
these guidelines: “If
an invitation reads “black tie optional” or “black
tie invited,” you can expect a nice affair and there
will be people attending in tuxedos. Your host is leaving
it up to you to dress formally or not. If your invitation
reads “black
tie preferred,” your host is suggesting that you dress
formal and hoping you do, but you can make that decision
and he won’t be offended if you don’t. Any invitation
that has the words “black tie" requires you to
dress formal. “White tie” requires you to dress
in evening tails. White tie is the ultimate in formal dress
for men.”
One of the easiest things a man can do to assure that renting
or purchasing his formalwear is not a worry, is to patronize
a respectable shop. Companies that are active within a professional
organization, are voted "Best of" by consumers and
local magazines, and that offer in-store inventory as opposed
to just fabric swatches are far more likely to offer good service,
quality products and reliability.
Bill Tzizik, President, Classic Tuxedo, recommends that men
start out by visiting their local formalwear specialist at
least 2 to 3 months prior to the event.
Once you find a reputable shop, you need to ask yourself whether you should
rent or buy a tuxedo and how much can you spend? If you will
wear a tuxedo 2 to 3
times a year, it is cost effective to purchase your own tuxedo.
Tuxedos can be purchased in “packages” which
include a tuxedo, formal trouser, shirt, accessory/neckwear
and jewelry. Formal items can also be purchased
a la carte. Some companies, like Classic Tuxedo, offer the groom a discount
option to purchase a tuxedo to keep as opposed to getting a
free rental for his wedding
day. Also, if the groom is undecided, he can rent his tuxedo for the day and
later decide to purchase it - the rental price will be deducted from the purchase
price. Special offers are also available like 50% off the purchase of a tuxedo
for up to one year after the wedding.
Once you decide to rent or buy,
you need to choose your style. The latest tuxedos feature a
high button stance, elongated jacket and multi-button detailing
from
designer tuxedo lines such as Matteo Maas and Monsieur Givenchy, a new designer
available in the local tuxedo rental market.
Vests are the "must have" accessory.
Fullback styling, now in rental, mimics expensive vests previously
available only for purchase. The Bellagio Vest
Collection by Mel Howard, features subtle sharkskin fabric with barely noticed
nailhead design in 13 colors, sure to coordinate with any bridesmaid dress.
The high button front vest complements new neckwear styles.
Bow ties are still the most traditional neckwear but
grooms can also choose a euro tie (similar to a necktie but
features a fancy wrapped knot and an adjustable band that wraps
around the neck) for a fresh look. Collar enhancers (a satin
band worn around the neck with a button cover attached) or
a solitaire jewelry button cover available in gold, silver
and rhinestone can add pizzazz. In addition to the classic,
white, wing collar shirt worn with a tuxedo, grooms now have
the option of a formal laydown collar shirt. With new micro-fiber
technology, Bill Tzizik of Classic Tuxedo said, " Tallia
Uomo's new grey, microfiber non-pleated, laydown collar shirt,
gives you get the color and comfort of casualwear in formalwear."
Selecting the right type of formalwear for a wedding should
be fun and hassle free. Get educated about what is appropriate
to wear, seek out a professional supplier, and above all,
get excited about dressing up for that special occasion.
